The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office serves a growing population of over 13,000 residents. Watonwan County covers 414 square miles located in south central Minnesota. While Watonwan County is primarily a rural farming community, Minnesota State Highway 60 runs through the middle of the County, making easy access to the Twin Cities.
Watonwan County contains many beautiful lakes, parks, golf courses, bike trails and snowmobile trails. The Watonwan County Sheriffs Office employs over 25 fulltime and part time employees, which consist of patrol deputies, detention officers, dispatchers, bailiffs and clerical staff. The Sheriff’s Office provides a full range of enforcement services for 12 townships. The Sheriff’s Office also coordinates its law enforcement services with two independent police departments within the county: St. James Police Department and the Madelia Police Department.
