Employment & Training
Responsibilities & Services
This office is the service provider for the
Minnesota Family Investment Program, Diversionary Work Program [DWP], and the
Food Stamp Employment and Training Program.
Programs
These programs are designed to serve residents of Watonwan County who receive public assistance:
- The Diversionary Work Program (DWP) - This is a four month program that provides services and supports to eligible families to help them move immediately to work rather than go on welfare.
- DWP may help with rent, utilities, child care, and transportation.
- The Food Stamp Employment and Training Program - This is for people receiving only food assistance. The services our office offers include case management, job seeking skills, and possibly some transportation.
- The Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) - This is for families receiving cash and food stamps. MFIP requires that most people receiving assistance go to work.
- This program assists recipients in becoming self-sufficient by providing case management services, and job seeking skills training. MFIP provides day care and transportation assistance for participants who go to work.
